Named after the date he landed in Australia to study at Le Cordon Bleu, chef Sahil Arora’s 266 – The Wine Room & Bar is a cosy addition to Bandra’s culinaria that boasts some of the best wines from around the world and experimental European cuisine.
Divided into a bar area as you enter followed by the seating area for dinner done in pastel green, the lighting over here is soft and perfect for date night while 90s music plays out on the stereo. There are also two very stylishly done up private booths for those who want a bit more privacy, which is a great idea. However, one would suggest the open work space that lies between the two areas be cordoned off as it spoils the entire show.
Cocktails & Cuisine
Wine is the drink du jour over here and cocktails like 266 Spritzer (Chandon Brut, Campari, orange), Bloody Pami (vodka, tomato juice, coriander, chili) and Eton Cobbler (vodka, strawberry, Riesling, lemon) are unmissable. The food is largely European cuisine with some experimental additions that the chef throws in. With drinks, the teeny tiny Lotus Stem Crisps that came with a complementing chutney was a great appetizer as was the Charcuterie & Cheese Board with its bread being sourced from a German baker in Alibaug and its cheese brought in from Pune and Kodaikanal. Do not miss trying the sourdough especially, that pairs perfectly with the chorizo, salami and fig jam. The Caramelised Figs Salad was wonderfully refreshing with its sprinkle of pine nuts and blue cheese over rocket and balsamic. In mains, Chicken Two Ways came with a light, luxurious mousseline sauce and dauphinoise potatoes. Every other day there are ‘specials’ and we were treated to Chenna in desserts with mango unusually in it that was happily indulged by my companion.
The Pork Belly was simply dreamy – a succulent chunk with braised cabbage on top and apple jus.
Not only were the lamb slivers too slim in the Lamb Stir Fry, it somehow just didn’t do much for me as a dish.
