Mumbai’s new party spot

Tippling Street, that’s housed in the swanky new Horizon building in Juhu (set to have restaurants like Pa Pa Ya and Indigo Deli soon), is fast catching on amongst the partygoers of the suburbs especially since it’s open till 4am on Saturdays. But it is much more than just a nightbirds’ den – it has some really great food that could get lost with its party-hearty image.

Interiors

Said to be like a London gastropub, the resemblance is faint besides for a few English curios and checkered upholstery. Instead, you get the feel of a clubby lounge bar with a DJ, open kitchen and an outside seating area for smokers. They have special nights like Unplugged and as the night goes on people just get up and dance near their tables.

Cuisine

They have a handsome bar list and I would highly recommend Blogger’s Choice (lemon grass infused vodka mixed with orange and pineapple) or Shinsei (seaweed infused vodka with fennel tonic and apple juice), both cocktails being really good and tipplingly potent. The menu is a mix of English favourites (think: fish & chips and shepherd’s pie!) with some Italian, Asian and continental. While it may stretch the culinary boundaries of the menu to have pizza sitting side by side with sushi, it’s in keeping with the assorted crowd that goes to lounge bars nowadays – a bit of everything for everyone. The starters that stood out were Baked Brie with its phyllo pastry covering soon melting with the softness of its cheesy insides, Aioli Chicken that had skewered chunks with a garlic and paprika rub, and Yakitori Chicken that was a tandoor spin on the Japanese dish. In mains, definitely go with the Grilled Tenderloin with its well-flavoured juicy chunks immersed in cauliflower puree. The desserts here were a revelation too, like 70% Dark Chocolate Mousse and Burnt Cambridge Cream.

Grilled Chicken

Standout dish

The wonderfully petite Lamb Patty which came on pita bread with tzatziki. Meaty with a crunch!

Sore spot

The music at night can get really loud, so if you want to concentrate on the cuisine I would suggest you visit in the daytime.
