Watchout! London-inspired gastropub London Taxi has zoomed into the city’s gastronomy. While it might be pegged as a ‘gastropub’, under the guidance of chef Nagraj Bhat (who has worked at the Michelin starred The Waterside Inn in London and served the likes of Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger) the food here is definitely a notch above. The bar boasts mean concoctions by India’s first female flair bartender Ami Shroff (I tried Sherlock In A Pickle, inspired by Sherlock Holmes, and can assure you it is like its namesake – genius!).
Divided into three floors with the rooftop yet to open, the ground area is the most buzzing with a long, stylish bar and a DJ who amps up the sound as the night progresses. The decor exudes various motifs of London, with splashes of colour and a pop art effect. One would wish the lighting was a little dimmer though, to make the atmosphere more warm and cosy.
This place is all about its food! The Plum and Soya Glazed Warm Chicken Salad had juicy chunks of chicken with mushrooms, chestnuts and glass noodles. Both the pork dishes were perfectly done – Pineapple in Maple Bacon Blanket which had succulent strips of bacon encasing spicy pineapple chunks with an onion cream cheese mousse and the Oriental Braised Pork Belly that came with an oyster sauce. In mains, the Chorizo and Prawn Pearl Barley Risotto was a creamy delight.
I literally polished off every bit of the Banana Rum and Toffee Parfait that was plated like a garden with chocolate branches, dark chocolate and peanut butter ganache, strawberry gel, truffle scented dark chocolate fox nuts and chocolate soil.
The Peri Peri Honey Mustard Chicken seemed pretty standard, like a step child of chicken tikka.
